10: Grey Storybooks
The children practise speedily reading and spelling the Set 3 sounds. They continue to learn to read Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 green words (words which can be sounded out), building speed. They read red words (words with tricky sounds within them), and to be able to do this speedily. They read multi-syllabic words (e.g. lighthouse, bumblebee, armchair). They read nonsense words and spell using Fred Fingers (focusing on multi-syllabic, Set 2 and Set 3 words).
To be ready to move on to Accelerated Reader, the children need to be able to read a passage at 80-90+ words per minute, with intonation that shows expression.
